Holding and trading that open position requires a Balance Responisble Party sponsorship with TenneT, even without a physical connection point of your own in the Netherlands. PVNED provides that sponsorship in full, from registration through to day-to-day management, so trading stays with you and the administration moves to us.
Why the Dutch market offers a different kind of volatility
Your home market runs on a nuclear baseload of over 35%, topped up by fast-growing wind capacity. That combination gives you a stable floor with volatility layered on top, a price logic that’s distinctly Finnish. In the Netherlands, wind and gas set the marginal price instead. There’s no nuclear baseload, but there is an open position you’re free to hold and trade on the imbalance market.
For a portfolio built around Finnish baseload stability, that’s a genuinely different addition. A second (or more), independent price source running alongside your Finnish position rather than moving with it.
Balance Responsible Party: the role Fingrid doesn’t play for you
Holding a position open on the Dutch market comes with an obligation attached: someone has to answer for it if that position doesn’t balance out. On the Finnish market, Fingrid absorbs that obligation for you inside the exchange relationship itself, so it’s never been something you’ve had to arrange separately. TenneT keeps the two apart. An open position on the Dutch imbalance market needs a recognised BRP standing behind it, independent of whichever exchange you traded it through.
PVNED takes on exactly that obligation. We carry the imbalance risk, handle the reporting TenneT requires, and hold no trading positions of our own, so nothing in how we operate overlaps with your own book.
What PVNED does for you
We specifically work on four areas so your position on the Dutch market will run smoothly:
- Market access – from Finnish zone to TenneT: We register your portfolio with TenneT and open up EPEX SPOT, Nord Pool NL and Etpa as a another, structurally different price source alongside your national Finnish price.
- Open position and balance responsibility – the risk we take off your hands: Where Fingrid handles the balance of your Finnish position within the exchange relationship itself, we manage your Dutch open position separately, with E-programmes, nominations and continuous monitoring.
- Forecasting and nominations – staying on top of it between baseload and wind peaks: Our forecasting accounts for a market with no nuclear baseload, where wind an gas set the marginal price. That is a different kind of valitality than the stable floor in Finland.
- Settlement and reporting – numbers that add up every month: Every month you get a clear settlement report on your Dutch portfolio, reconciled with TenneT, so you always know exactly where that position stands.
Pooling: where the open position pays off
PVNED pools the daily per-quarter-hour volume of all its clients into one combined position. Some quarter-hours settle at two different imbalance prices, and when that happens, the scale of that shared volume creates an advantage, part of which we pass back to you. For a portfolio built on a nuclear baseload, that’s a source of return running on a completely different driver, wind and gas volatility rather than reactor output. You pick this up automatically once PVNED manages your Dutch position.
Note: These are not guarantees. They are structural features of the Dutch imbalance market and pool participation is how you get exposure to them.
Who we work with
- Trading companies: Trade Only firms already trading across EPEX SPOT, Nord Pool or other European exchanges, ready to add the Dutch imbalance market to that portfolio.
- Energy producers: Certainty over the forecasting and settlement of your Dutch volume.
- Industrial bulk consumers: Predictable imbalance costs.
- Energy suppliers and aggregators: Outsourcing balancing obligations.
Why work with us: infrastructure ready before your first trade
Setting up your own BRP registration takes six to twelve months. With TenneT certification, building forecasting and nomination systems, and ongoing compliance and reporting on top of that. For a Trade Only company, that’s six to twelve months before a position that could otherwise be earning from day one.
PVNED gives you that infrastructure immediately: TenneT access, EPEX trading access and the imbalance pool, all in place before you place your first trade. We hold no trading positions of our own, so the strategy and every decision within it stay entirely yours.

Frequently asked questions by Danish companies
Does the time difference between Finland and the Netherlands affect my nomination deadlines?
Finland runs one hour ahead of the Netherlands year-round. PVNED submits nominations against Dutch market gate closure times, not Finnish ones, so that hour is already built into our process. You don’t need to adjust your own scheduling to account for it.
How much more volatile is the Dutch imbalance market than what I’m used to in Finland?
It moves more, and more often, because there’s no nuclear baseload absorbing the swings. Wind and gas set the marginal price, so imbalance prices can shift sharply within a single day. That’s exactly what makes an open position worth holding rather than closing out, but it’s a different rhythm than the stability you’re used to, and worth factoring into how you size the position.
Can I manage my Dutch position through the same systems I already use for Finland?
Your Finnish trading systems and processes stay exactly as they are. On the Dutch side, PVNED handles the E-programmes, nominations and TenneT reporting directly, so there’s no integration work on your end, just a separate position running alongside your Finnish one.
What does my Finnish bidding zone structure mean for BRP registration in the Netherlands?
Finland trades on a single national price, unlike Sweden, Norway or Denmark, which each have multiple zones. That structure has no bearing on the Dutch side. PVNED registers and manages a foreign position the same way regardless of how many zones your home market has.
I already hold a Dutch position through another BRP while trading from Finland. Can PVNED take that over?
Yes. PVNED handles the transfer of your E-programmes and nominations directly with TenneT, so the switch doesn’t interrupt trading on either your Finnish or Dutch positions.
