PVNED gives German (trading) firms access to that position as an independent Balance Responsible Party, recognised by TenneT. We handle the registration and the day-to-day coordination that role requires with TenneT, so you can focus on what you do best.
The Dutch market next to the one you already know
For Trade Only firms already active on EPEX SPOT, adding the Dutch market means trading on familiar territory rather than learning a new one. It’s the same exchange, with one difference that matters: a position you’d normally close out before delivery can instead stay open and be traded on the imbalance market, which functions as its own earning opportunity on top of what you already do.
That step is a practically small one too. The Dutch and German grids are heavily interconnected as TenneT operates as grid operator in both countries, so you’re extending into a market where the infrastructure – and in TenneT’s case the counterparty – is already familiar rather than starting from scratch. What does need arranging is BRP sponsorship: every party that trades, produces or consumes on the Dutch market has to be connected to a recognised Balance Responsible Party (like PVNED).
PVNED covers 4 key areas
We cover four areas that show what the role of BRP means in practice:
- Market access – one extra registration: Your existing TenneT registration in Germany stays exactly as it is, nothing about that changes. PVNED arranges a separate registration specifically for your Dutch position and submits it directly to TenneT on your behalf, so the process runs through us rather than becoming a new relationship you have to manage yourself.
- Open position – the risk that becomes ours: We take over balance responsibility for your Dutch position, kept separate from your German balancing obligations. Nothing about your German activity changes, you simply add an independent position in the Netherlands through PVNED.
- Forecasting – familiair dynamics applied twice: Sun and wind shape the price in Germany just as strongly as in the Netherlands. Our forecasting applies that familiar dynamic to your Dutch nominations and volumes.
- Settlement and reporting – a monthly figure you can trust: A separate settlement for your Dutch position every month, so you always know exactly how that position is performing.
Who PVNED is for
- Trading companies (Trade Only): Already active via EPEX SPOT in Germany and/or the wider EU, or looking to start trading there. Either way, PVNED gives you direct access to the open position on the Dutch imbalance market.
- Energy producers: German producers looking to sell part of their output on the Dutch market.
- Industrial bulk consumers: Optimising Dutch consumption alongside your German procurement.
- Energy suppliers and aggregators: Outsourcing balancing obligations for your Dutch customer portfolio.
Choosing an advantage that comes from scale
Unlike BRPs that are part of a larger energy company, PVNED takes no position of its own in the market, so nothing in how we operate competes with your own trading strategy.
We also pool the daily per-quarter-hour volume of all our clients into one combined position. Some quarter-hours settle at two different imbalance prices. When that happens, the scale of that shared volume creates an advantage, part of which we pass back to you, a source of return that’s hard to reach on your own as an individual German party.

Frequently asked questions by German companies
Why would a German party enter the Dutch market, if the German bidding zone is already so large and liquid?
Because the Dutch imbalance market lets you do something the German market doesn’t: hold that position open and trade it, rather than closing it out before delivery. For a firm already trading via EPEX SPOT, extending into that market is a natural next step rather than a new discipline to learn.
The Netherlands remains a single bidding zone, while a split of the German bidding zone is being studied. What does that mean for me?
It means the Dutch market structure stays predictable while the German one may change. Any future German zone split mainly affects internal German price formation. Your position on the Dutch market through PVNED remains unaffected, with the same single national price you’re already familiar with.
Do I need to be physically present in the Netherlands to trade?
No, that’s not necessary. PVNED arranges the BRP registration and all contact with TenneT on your behalf. You simply keep trading from your own location in Germany.
Does anything change about my existing activities in Germany?
Not significantly. Your German activities and your existing TenneT registration in Germany remain unchanged. PVNED only arranges the BRP role for your additional position on the Dutch market.
How quickly can I be operational?
PVNED is already a fully recognised BRP with TenneT, so you skip the recognition process itself, the one that typically takes new applicants six to twelve months on its own. Once your onboarding is complete, which usually takes about a month, you can start trading your Dutch position straight away.
