For Trade companies, PVNED can fulfil that role. We take care of the processes behind your Dutch trading position, while your trading desk remains in control of the positions you take and how you respond to market opportunities.
Manage it yourself or outsource it?
As a trading company, you can organise the BRP processes yourself. This requires the right systems, expertise and operational capacity to comply with the requirements of the Dutch market and process your positions correctly every day. This also takes a lot of time to setup yourself (six to twelve months). For a Trade Only company, the commercial value is not in maintaining that organisation. It is in the trading decisions you make. PVNED therefore takes responsibility for the balancing processes behind your position. This means you do not have to build and maintain the required infrastructure yourself, while your trading desk can stay focused on the market.
Independent or also your competitor?
Your BRP operates close to your trading activities. The party processes your positions and therefore has insight into an important part of what happens behind your trading desk. When that same organisation also trades for its own account, the two roles can overlap. PVNED does not operate a proprietary energy trading portfolio. We take care of the processes behind your position without participating in the market alongside you as a trader.
What PVNED does you
You decide where the opportunities are. We make sure your Dutch trading position can be processed accordingly.
- Keeping your trading position operational: We arrange the setup required for your balance responsibility to run through PVNED and coordinate the relevant processes within the Dutch electricity market.
- From transaction to correct processing: Once you make a trading decision, the resulting position also needs to be processed correctly. PVNED handles the required market communication with TenneT, including the E-programmes associated with your position.
- Flexibility to keep a position open: As a company, you can choose not to close your entire position through day-ahead or intraday trading. PVNED carries the balance responsibility for the position you leave open, allowing you to include this possibility in your own trading strategy.
- Insight after your position is processed: Once a position has been taken, you also need to understand how it was ultimately processed. We therefore provide periodic insight into the relevant volumes and financial settlement behind your trading activities.
The companies we (mostly) work with
- Trading companies: PVNED works with Trade Only companies that trade on EPEX SPOT and other energy markets and are looking for an independent BRP. This may be a company opening a new Dutch position or one that wants to organise its existing balance responsibility differently. You remain in control of your trading strategy, while PVNED handles the processes behind your position.
- Energy producers: PVNED manages the balance responsibility behind the electricity producers feed into the Dutch grid. Where relevant, we also support producers with forecasting of their expected production.
- Energy suppliers: Energy suppliers can place their balance responsibility with PVNED and focus on their customers, portfolio and commercial activities.
- Industrial bulk consumers: For industrial companies with substantial or variable demand, PVNED manages the balance responsibility behind their market position.
- Grid operators: PVNED also supports grid operators with the balance responsibility and market processes linked to their position.
Why the imbalance pool gives you an advantage
As a client, your position is included in PVNED’s imbalance pool. The joint settlement of different positions therefore forms part of the way we manage your balance responsibility. When the combined settlement creates an advantage, we share that benefit with our clients. In addition to our BRP services, you can therefore benefit from being part of PVNED’s broader portfolio.

Frequently asked questions by Dutch companies
When does it make sense to outsource the BRP role?
For a trading company, the commercial value lies primarily in the trading strategy, not in maintaining the systems and processes behind balance responsibility. By placing that responsibility with PVNED, you do not need to build and maintain your own BRP infrastructure.
What does my trading desk continue to manage if PVNED is my BRP?
Your trading strategy remains fully within your own organisation. You decide which positions to take and when to trade, for example via EPEX SPOT, Day-Ahead or Intraday. PVNED manages the processes required to correctly process the position behind those trades.
Can I move my existing Dutch trading position to PVNED?
Yes. If you are already active on the Dutch energy market and your balance responsibility is currently placed with another BRP, you can move that position to PVNED. Together, we determine what needs to be arranged operationally to transfer your position.
What does an independent BRP mean for my company?
PVNED does not operate a proprietary trading book. This means there is no trading strategy on the BRP side competing with your own commercial interests. We manage the processes behind your position, while all commercial decisions remain with your company.
Can I keep a position open as part of my Dutch trading strategy?
Yes. A position does not always need to be fully closed through Day-Ahead or Intraday trading. PVNED carries the balance responsibility behind the position you leave open and manages its further processing and settlement.
